The Independent Living Team operate various projects that aim to meet the aspirations of Disabled People.

The team strongly believe in choice and control for Disabled People and will facilitate this as much as ‘the system’ allows.

For the last 15 years, we have run a highly sucessful Direct Payments Support Scheme across Southampton and Southern Hampshire. Direct Payments is a key part of the move to Personal Budgets and Self Directed Support.

We also support people to recruit their own Personal Assistants and assist them by providing a range of Employment Advice Sheets. 

Peer support is a core principle within SCIL which is why all the Direct Payments Support Workers and Support Brokers are all Disabled People who are committed to choice and control. We also run regular Peer Support Groups and events so that people can share experiences and seek support from one another.

SCIL is also a key member of the Personalisation Expert Panel which is a coalition of user led organisations across Hampshire committed to influencing both local and national policy across Adult Social Care.

SCIL has set up a subsidiary CIC to support people with continuing health care needs who still want to exercise choice and control in their life.
